How to book the citizenship and social studies tests
Both tests are booked through HKdir's official registration portal, taken at municipal test centres, and paid for per attempt. Booking is simple, but a few rules surprise many people: registration is binding, prices vary a lot between municipalities, and special adaptations must be requested within days of registering.

How much does the test cost?
Your municipality sets the price, and it varies widely: HKdir states a range of 300 to 1 800 kroner. The exact price appears in the registration portal when you choose a test centre.
Some candidates are entitled to a free first attempt at the social studies test through their municipality, typically linked to the right to free tuition in the introduction programme. Ask your municipality before paying.
Rules worth knowing before you pay
Registration is binding: you pay even if you do not show up. The exception is documented illness — with a doctor's note you can typically take the test later without paying again.
If you need special adaptation, such as extra time or a separate room, you must request it from the test centre no later than three days after registering.

On the day: bring valid ID
You must show valid identification to take the test. HKdir accepts passports, driving licences, national ID cards, refugee travel documents, residence cards, and asylum-seeker ID with signature and place of birth.
Arrive with time to spare, and use the days before the test for a final full-length practice run rather than cramming new material.
