Test results and the certificate: when and where
The wait depends on the test: HKdir states that you can see your citizenship test result the day after the test, while the social studies result is available within two to four weeks. Everyone who passes gets a certificate by post. This guide covers where to check your result, what the certificate is for, what you can and cannot appeal, and what to do next whether you passed or not.

Quick answer
For the citizenship test (statsborgerprøven — see our full guide for how it's structured), HKdir says the result is available the day after the test. You are notified by email, and you can log in to the test platform's Min side or to Vitnemålsportalen to see the result.
If you pass, a physical certificate is sent by post 2–4 weeks after the test date. For the social studies test, HKdir states the result is available within 2–4 weeks on Min side and in Vitnemålsportalen, and the certificate is likewise sent by post.

Where to find your result
There are three official routes. The simplest is the email notification from the test system. You can also log in to Min side on the test platform you used when you registered, or open Vitnemålsportalen, which requires ID-porten login with MinID, BankID, Buypass, or Commfides.
Vitnemålsportalen is worth knowing about even after you pass: it lets you generate a signed PDF of your result and share a verification link, which is useful whenever an application asks for documentation.
How to log in and find your result
Min side is the test platform's own login and is in Norwegian only, so make sure the contact details you registered with are correct — the email notification goes there. Vitnemålsportalen is the national results portal and works in English.
- Min side: open the test portal you registered on, log in, and open your latest test.
- Vitnemålsportalen: log in through ID-porten with MinID, BankID, Buypass or Commfides, then open your latest and best results.
- To document the pass, generate a signed PDF or a sharing link in Vitnemålsportalen.
- Certificate not arrived after four weeks, or lost? Contact the test centre where you took the test.
The certificate and what it is for
The posted certificate is your proof of having taken and passed the test. Keep it with your immigration paperwork — the knowledge requirement in a citizenship application is documented by this pass.
If the certificate goes missing, contact the test centre where you took the test and ask for a copy. A signed digital version from Vitnemålsportalen covers most situations where uploading a PDF is accepted.
If the result is not what you hoped
A fail is not final: there is no limit on attempts, and you can register again once new test dates open. Before booking a retake, find out which categories cost you the pass — that is the difference between a targeted month of practice and repeating the same result.

HKdir is clear that the result itself cannot be appealed. If something went wrong with how the test was run — for example a technical problem on the day that you think affected your result — you can complain to your test centre within three weeks of the test.
Common questions
How long does it take to get the result?
It depends on the test. HKdir states the citizenship test result is available the day after the test, and the social studies test result within 2–4 weeks. The physical certificate for those who pass arrives by post — for the citizenship test, 2–4 weeks after the test date.
Can I appeal my result?
No. HKdir states that you cannot appeal the result of either test. You can complain about formal errors in how the test was conducted, such as technical problems on test day that you believe affected your result. Send the complaint to the test centre where you took the test within three weeks of the test.
I lost my certificate. Can I get a new one?
Contact the test centre where you took the test and request a copy. You can also document your result digitally through Vitnemålsportalen with an ID-porten login.
Does a passed test expire?
HKdir's result pages do not state an expiry for the pass itself. Requirements are set per application type, so confirm with UDI what documentation your specific application needs.
Is the test result the same as my citizenship application status?
No. The test result comes from HKdir and only shows whether you passed. Your application status is handled by UDI and is checked through UDI's own services, where you also upload the test documentation.
